Year-long campaign rolled out to end violence against women, girls

The joint European Union and UN Spotlight Initiative to eliminated violence against women and girls rolled out a year-long campaign dubbed “#WhyNot365” to end violence against women and girls in Zimbabwe.

The focus of the campaign is on youth and community engagement, ensuring that the voices of young people and communities across the country are amplified on what needs to be done to eliminate violence in all its forms.

To date, the campaign has seen the development of social media messages highlighting the importance of gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls in the elimination of sexual and gender-based violence and harmful practices like child marriages.

In addition, videos have been shared on social media platforms showcasing the work being done by youth and community members in areas like Epworth and the district of Shamva to end the scourge of violence in the communities they reside in.

Public engagement with the campaign has been high, with the most popular posts on social media engaging as high as 64,720 people.
